Foundation Business Luncheon

On May 17th, we hosted our 14th Annual Foundation Business Luncheon at The University Club. This popular event took a slightly new direction under the leadership of the vice-chair of our Foundation Board, Greg Doyle. Whereas in the past, this event was open only to members of the alumni, this year it was open not only to alumni but also to their business associates and we were pleased to welcome one hundreds attendees.

Over the years, our guest speakers have included people such as Jeff Orr, President and CEO of Power Corp., Daniel Fournier, President and CEO of Ivanhoe-Cambridge and Pierre Boivin, President and CEO of Claridge. This year we were fortunate to have Bruce Hills, the COO of Just for Laughs.

Bruce has been the driving force behind the world's most prestigious comedy brand and biggest comedy festival for over 30 years.

Under Bruce's direction, Just For Laughs, founded in 1983, has expanded its global reach, launching festivals not only in Canada, but the US and Australia, as well as satellite events in Singapore, Cancun and Bermuda. The brand's flagship event, the Just For Laughs Montreal Festival, welcomes over 2 million festival-goers each year and has been a launching pad for some of the biggest names in comedy, such as Jimmy Fallon, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Russell Peters and Louis CK.

In addition, Bruce runs Just For Laughs TV, the biggest producer of stand-up content in the world, which has provided over 1000 hours of television for premium broadcasters internationally. Just For Laughs specials and series have aired in over 130 countries, including on all major Canadian, U.S. and International broadcasters.

He also helped establish Just For Laughs Live (otherwise referred to as 'JFL Live') as the top comedy promoter in Canada, touring world class comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, John Cleese, Larry the Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy since 1998.

Our sincere thanks goes out to Bruce Hills and our event sponsor, PWL, without whom this event would not have been the success it was.

We look forward to next year's luncheon and hope to see you there.
