Information Evening for Sec. 1 & 2 Parents

JUNIOR INFORMATION EVENING

On Thursday, September 6th, 2018 the Faculty and Administration of Loyola will be hosting an Information Evening for the parents of all Secondary One and Two students. Please note that this is an ADULT ONLY evening.

This evening is being set aside to provide parents with information about matters such as subject content, homework, evaluation, etc. Parents will follow a condensed version of their son’s schedule, moving from room to room, meeting teachers and getting a view of their overall day.

During the mini-periods, teachers will introduce themselves to the ‘class’ of parents (as a group), outline their courses, explain their homework requirements and evaluation procedures, and indicate how parents can be of help at home. Outlines are available on the school webpage, so you may wish to consult/print the pages before the evening.

SECONDARY ONE: Information sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m..
SECONDARY TWO: Information sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m..

Before you arrive, please find out from your son which homeroom he is in, eg., 1A, 2B etc.. Upon arriving, Maroon & White students will direct parents to the appropriate classroom for “Homeroom” where you can pick up your schedule for the evening. Please enter by the front door of the school. Instructions for parking can be found below.

After the ‘mini-schedule’ is completed, parents and teachers will have the opportunity to mingle at a “Wine and Cheese” in the Atrium. There, parents will be able to meet members of the school community whom they may have encountered during the evening (administrators, the President of the Parents’ Association, the President of the Mothers’ Guild, etc.).

Members of the Mothers’ Guild will be present in the Cafetorium for a clothing sale from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.. Used items of clothing may be dropped off at that time. School calendars will also be sold for $4.00 (proceeds to Bursary Fund).

We look forward to seeing you this Thursday.

Yours truly,

Ms. Annie Beland
Vice Principal – Academics, Junior School

PARKING:

Parents should be aware that the rear parking lot (near the school gymnasium) belongs to Concordia University. The University now charges a flat rate of $6.00 for parking anywhere on their lot. There is a parking ticket machine which accepts exact change or credit card. Unfortunately, all visitors must pay or risk being towed. Parking places marked “Loyola High School” are for Loyola faculty and staff only. These places have a special permit.

Other parking may be found on the side streets located around the school. However, with Concordia University night classes underway, finding a parking spot near the school may prove difficult. To avoid the stress of finding parking and possibly arriving late, you may want to park 4-5 streets east or west of the school and enjoy the five-minute walk to Loyola.

Please do NOT park in the small parking lot on the east side of the school (adjacent to the football field). It is reserved for teachers and administrators on this evening.

CELL PHONES:

As a courtesy to your son’s teachers, please turn off cell phones during the mini-period course presentations.
