Information on progress reports and other updates

Dear Parents,

IMPORTANT: YOUR SON’S PROGRESS REPORT WILL BE AVAILABLE DIGITALLY THROUGH OUR NEW PARENT PORTAL. A SEPARATE EMAIL WILL BE SENT TO YOU EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH LOGIN DETAILS.

The Acknowledgement Card confirming you have received and reviewed your son’s Report Card will still be handed to your son. Our goal is that in the near future, parents will have the capability to acknowledge receipt directly online.  In the meantime, please sign the card and have your son hand it to his Period 2 teacher on October 10th.

PROGRESS REPORT:  According to Government regulations, this first report is anecdotal only (no grades).  The purpose of this report is simply to give you a general idea of your son’s effort and performance in the first month of school. Please talk to your son about the teachers’ comments and effort indicators to be sure you understand them and encourage him to speak with any of his teachers if there is a comment or effort rating that he does not understand. The first official report card with grades will be sent home in November at the end of the first term.

There are no parent/teacher interviews this reporting period. However, if you have any questions or concerns please call or make an appointment with your son’s teacher. A personal conversation is always preferred over email.

NOTE FOR SECONDARY 5 STUDENTS – CEGEP APPLICATIONSCEGEPs will consider Secondary 5 Term 1 & Term 2 grades (November 15th and February 27th), and Secondary 4 Summary grades for admittance into your program of choice.

ABSENCES:  Please read this letter with information on student absences.

PARKING AND STUDENT DROP-OFF:  Please read this letter with information on parking and drop-offs.

TRAINS, TRAFFIC AND SAFETY: Parents are asked to remind their son(s) of the importance of good decorum and safety using public transportation. In past years, train officials have informed all parents and schools about the dangerous actions of some students using the trains, namely:

  • pushing and shoving on the platform and in the train;
  • running in front of the train before the barrier lifts;
  • jumping on or off moving trains;
  • using earbuds or headphones while at or approaching the train station.

Please review this matter with your son(s). By using good sense, potentially disastrous situations may be avoided.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES AND CALENDAR: As you know, there are ongoing Loyola activities on a daily and weekly basis.  Parents are encouraged to access our website at www.loyola.ca in order to keep up-to-date with information on what is happening at the school. Please also consult the school calendar regularly.

Sincerely,

Loyola Administration
