POSITION: Vice-Principal (Discipline)

START DATE: August 2018

REPORTING TO: Principal

ABOUT LOYOLA HIGH SCHOOL:

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or in Field; Master’s preferred
Active Québec teaching certificate

WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum 10 years’ teaching experience

LANGUAGE: Although Loyola High School is an English working environment, written and spoken French is preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Student-Related Responsibilities
• Help with the formation of the entire person as it relates to issues of discipline
• Supervise and evaluate student behaviour in all school related activities
• Meet students with disciplinary issues
• Manage daily disciplinary actions (detentions)
• Determine and manage serious disciplinary actions (suspensions, etc.)
• Ensure parental awareness of disciplinary issues
• Work with Guidance, Academic VPs, parents and students so as to improve student performance and behaviour
• Implement and supervise behavioural action plans and/or trackers for students with chronic behavioural issues
• Supervise students with drug-abuse issues (coordinate counselling and drug testing)

II. Student Body-Related Responsibilities
• Update, communicate and enforce the student regulation section of the handbook
• Organize assemblies on drugs, alcohol, bullying, and other public-safety issues
• Work with student council to address discipline-related student issues
• Record and maintain student attendance

III. Faculty-Related Responsibilities
• Work with faculty to maintain a consistent and Ignatian disciplinary approach
• Work with teachers in areas of classroom management
• Resource for faculty and staff who have concerns over a student’s disciplinary issues
• Facilitate/Mediate meetings between students and faculty over disciplinary issues
• Evaluate non-tenured teachers in the classroom setting

IV. Institutional/Building-Related Responsibilities
• Address issues of school safety and coordinate emergency drills (fire drills, lockdown)
• Work with the building manager to address issues of safety and vandalism
• Member of the crisis management team
• Work with Concordia University in regards to campus security
• Liaison between AMT, Montreal Police, local businesses and the school community

OTHER:
• Practicing Catholic
• Must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively
• Must demonstrate a strong commitment to the Jesuit mission in education

SCHEDULE: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm daily / August 2018 – June 30, 2019
