The Past to the Present

ignatiusLoyola's rich history of serving Montreal's English Catholic
community spans more than a hundred years. Prior to its
establishment as a distinct entity in 1896, Loyola was the
English section of Collège Ste-Marie, which was founded
in 1848. Loyola claims a long tradition of excellence from
commitment of educating "Men for Others" who are
intellectually competent, open to growth, religious,
loving and committed to doing justice.

 Loyola Coat-of-Arms

coat of armsThe original Coat-of-Arms was made up of
two shields, representing the Onaz and
Loyola families. The Onaz shield consisted
of seven red bars on a field of gold, which
commemorated the Onaz brothers. The
seven bars were granted them as a mark
of honour by the King of Spain, in
recognition of their bravery.
