Exploring Black History: Malik Shaheed's Inspiring Visit to Loyola High School

Since its inception in 2008, the Youth Star Foundation has dedicated itself to motivating youth and spreading positive learning messages to foster life skills and healthy habits.

As part of The Youth Star Foundation’s Black History Month school tour, Malik Shaheed, media personality and youth advocate, visited Loyola High School on February 8 to share the rich heritage of Black culture. Raised in Little Burgundy, Shaheed confronted systemic racism daily and committed to dismantling it in any way possible.

His impactful presentation aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the resilience, achievements, and contributions of the Black community, particularly in Montreal’s Little Burgundy.

"It's important to have a positive view about Black culture and critically examine the stereotypes that surround us in the media and pop culture," shared Quincy '25 during the presentation. "Thank you for enlightening us and showing us a part of our heritage.”

Reflecting on the significance of Black History Month, Shaheed expressed, “It’s crucial for people to take the time to learn about Black history this month. But more importantly, know about your own history. It’s going to make you a better person.”
